Nick McWilliams reporting – With growing popularity of the sport and packed courts most days, the city of New Philadelphia is expanding their pickleball facility with some new additions.

The courts at Tuscora Park, which came to life after groundbreaking last August, was completed after over $190,000 was raised. Early on, the city has seen positive feedback, with courts having been full during the spring and early summer.

Mayor Joel Day told council that they recently received funding to add on an area for spectators and those waiting to get a game in.

“It’s an enclosed viewing area and storage facility. There will be three tiers of seating in the viewing area. I want to thank the O’Donnell Foundation for its funding of the project and its continued effort to promote the sport of pickleball in New Philadelphia.”

He also noted that while the sport has been mostly geared towards older generations, they have seen a large group of younger residents also enjoying the new courts.

In other Tuscora-related news, the park is still looking for ride operators, concessions, and grill workers, and applications are online at www.tuscorapark.com/jobs.
