Residents from New Philadelphia and beyond are invited to a Friday Christmas lights gathering at 6:45 p.m.

Following a revamp of some of the downtown area’s Christmas decorations, Mayor Joel Day says that the city wants to celebrate the holiday season with all community members.

Some of the holiday displays were donated, according to the mayor.

“The city has purchased several new pieces of decorative lighting for the streetlight poles. But, the most impressive addition is a 20-foot LED lighted Christmas tree, which will be on the [Rodriguez] House of Stones downtown quadrant. The tree was purchased by local art supporters Don and Susie Whittingham and donated to the city by the Rotary Heritage Fund.”

The tree’s lighting will be programmed to Christmas music that will be played on the square throughout the season.

A staple of the city for years, the original Christmas displays on the Southside at the intersection of South Broadway and Commercial Avenue will also be featured in the lighting ceremony.

Holiday music and performances by New Phila students are also planned for the evening.
