Mary Alice Reporting –
The service department in New Philadelphia responded quickly following reports of a water leak and the situation has been fixed.
Around noon, on Monday, the department responded to the 200 block of 3rd Street SW and water was turned off, effecting about 25 homes.
Service Director Ron McAbier says once unearthed, they discovered about a three-foot pipe sectioned had separated.
“Those are always a leak that ends up needing a piece removed and then we need to spool another piece in, so we took out a ten-foot section of pipe and put in another ten-foot section.”
Residents in that areas were affected for about six hours, but diverting the water brought on other leaks.
“The next day we worked on one at Tuscora and North Broadway, and one over on 3rd Street NE. Typically happens when you redirect water from one area to another, but those were minor ones.”
McAbier adds that the hole size to conduct the fix was significant and they created a temporary paving patch, but plans are to bring in a company to make it permanent.
