A grant from the state’s H2Ohio program will help modernize New Philadelphia’s water treatment plant.

Service director Ron McAbier says the nearly 4-million-dollar award will replace the low-head dam off Mill Avenue with an above-ground lift station to improve water quality.

He believes the boat ramp at Waterworks Park will see more use as a result, since right now, users who launch there have to pick their boats up and carry them around the dam.

Mcabier anticipates the project taking place in two phases with the lift station being built sometime next year and the dam getting torn out shortly after.
