Mary Alice Reporting – Ahead of Michael Goodwin’s retirement as New Philadelphia Police Chief, a successor has been announced.

Goodwin has served the city since 2013 and his last day will be on July 7th, marking 33 years with the department.

Scoring the highest on the rigorous Civil Service promotions examination, out of three other candidates, Captain Tessa Pohovey will move to the Chief position. She will be the first female officer to hold the title for New Philadelphia.

Pohovey joined the force as a patrol office in 2012 and her promotion will allow two additional officers to move up in rank, with Sergeant Dave Morris promoted to Captain and Patrolman Wayne Clark moving to Sergeant.
