Mary Alice Reporting –
Numbers are in for the reporting period for Christmas weekend.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers were present throughout the state over the four-day reporting period from December 22nd through the 25th.
New Philadelphia Post Sgt. Clinton Armstrong says for their patrolling area, it was a relatively quiet weekend.
“We had 135 contacts with the motoring public. Of that, seven of those were crashes and we had three OVI arrests during the holiday time frame.”
Statewide, nine people died in eight fatal crashes, which marked the fewest deaths during the holiday time since 2018. Of the fatalities, five people were not wearing a safety belt and impairment was a factor in two crashes.
Across Ohio, troopers arrested 213 people for operating a vehicle while impaired and 21 for illegal drugs. Troopers also issued citations for 228 safety belt and 75 distracted driving violations.
