School District’s Treasurer Julie Erwin is retiring after 12 years in the office.
Erwin started in 2015 and will retire at the end of the calendar year. The School Board approved her retirement on Monday. “This has been a fabulous experience,” Erwin said. “I feel like I’ve been able to make a difference for students.”
She says these last 10 months will be exciting and busy as the Board searches for a new treasurer and superintendent and has an income tax issue on the May ballot to fund new schools.
Meanwhile, the New Philadelphia School Board accepted the resignation of a Board member and appointed a new one without much fanfare on Monday. Erwin said Andrew Zimmerman resigned in a brief email less than two months into a four-year term. Zimmerman was the leading vote-getter among four candidates seeking two seats back in November.
The Board of Education swore in Perry Petrullo to replace Zimmerman on Monday. Erwin said the board had 30 days from Zimmerman’s Feb. 20 resignation to choose a replacement.
“The sought out Mr. Petrullo and he was happy to get on the board and start making a difference,” Erwin said.
“He has a little bit of a road ahead of him, but exciting times for the district,” she said. “We might be in an OFCC building project, new superintendent, new treasurer. The district is going to go through some major changes and it’s going to be fun.”
Erwin says Petrullo will finish out Zimmerman’s four-year term.
