New Philadelphia will celebrate the completion of a year-long downtown improvement project tomorrow with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the Downtown Square.
Mayor Joel Day says the ceremony is set for one p.m. Wednesday, marking the completion of the 2.9-million-dollar redesign of the downtown quadrants. The project was funded through Governor Mike DeWine’s Appalachian Community Grant Program.
Day previously said Governor DeWine, Governor’s Office of Appalachia Director John Carey, Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mahalik and other state officials could be at the public ceremony.
The celebration will continue Saturday, when NPACT and downtown businesses host “Meet Me Downtown,” beginning at noon. The grand reopening will feature vendors, live music, fall-themed storefronts and scarecrow decorations, along with activities for children.
The event also will feature “Scarecrows on the Square.” Individuals, families, schools, youth groups, businesses and community organizations can enter a family-friendly scarecrow for a 25-dollar donation benefiting the NPACT Events Fund. Registration is due today, with judging Friday evening and the People’s Choice winner announced Saturday.
