Mary Alice Reporting –
Two separate blazes were called in on Thursday that had New Philadelphia fire and others responding.
From the two blazes, all occupants were able to escape without injury.
The first one occurred at 3am on 2nd Drive NW and Assistant Chief Matt Tharp says when firefighters arrived, fire was observed on the front porch.
“That was extending up inside into the attic space. By the time we were able to get in there and go to work on this fire, it had spread across the attic space in this single-story structure. This one was probably a complete loss with the property value of about $90,000 and content of about $20,000.”
The second call was later at just before 1pm with units going to 4th Street SW, and the fire was located in the back of the home.
“Upon arrival we had some light smoke coming from the back of the building. Significant amount of damage to the back of the structure. We had to pull down some ceiling and pull the wall off to get the fire inside the wall.”
Two dogs were rescued by units with a cat located later.
Dover and Uhrichsville Fire Departments and Smith Ambulance assisted at both blazes.
