New Philadelphia Mayor Joel Day is saluting one local civic group for reaching a big anniversary.

The mayor also expressed gratitude for it’s countless contributions over the Lions Club 100 years of dedicated service to the community.

Club members attended Thursday’s council meeting as Day read a proclamation recognizing them for the group’s longevity. The recognition also pointed out how the Lions Club provides eye exams and glasses for those in need, their support with Share-A-Christmas, youth baseball and softball, the County Soap Box Derby, RTY Summer Showcase, and numerous area non-profit organizations.

The Lions Club meets Mondays at noon at Tuscora Park. They are having a membership open house on Monday, from 11am to 1pm, at Park Place at Tuscora Park for anyone interested in joining or learning more.
