Mary Alice Reporting –

Joel Day, Mayor of New Philadelphia, took a moment Monday evening to commend several police officers.

This was for heroic efforts that saved a woman’s life on February 12th. Those recognized were Sargent Mitchell Gobley and Captain David Morris

“We are blessed in this community to have officers of this caliber and a chief of this caliber, who deeply care about our community and the people who live here, and sometimes, in the course of protecting us, they’re actually saving lives.”

The event surrounded a well-being concern for the woman, who had left her home on a bicycle. They located the transportation near the riverbank behind the skate park.

“Captain Morris found the woman who had attempted to harm herself and was struggling to breathe. Sargent Gobley requested an emergency squad from the fire department.”

Captain Morris found the woman, who had attempted to harm herself, and through their quick actions, EMS responded to perform further life saving measures as she was transported.
