The State Highway Patrol New Philadelphia post is out with more statistics for the start to the summer travel season.
Lt Bryan Sponaugle says troopers handled 13 crashes in Tuscarawas and Carroll counties during the four-day Memorial Day reporting period, including the fatal crash at state routes 212 and 21 on the holiday that killed a Coshocton Man.
He says local troopers also issued 225 tickets – including 24 seat belt citations – and made seven OVI arrests, including one that led to a felony charge for improper handling of a firearm. Those numbers all jumped from 2025.
Sponaugle says even though traffic was lighter this year because of the rain, he believes the enforcement numbers were up because more troopers were out patrolling the roads this year.
