A car crashed through the front doors of the New Philadelphia Starbucks at around 9:45 Monday morning.

Nobody was hurt and the building was not structurally damaged. New Philadelphia Police said it was an accident, and the driver of the sedan likely put the car in drive instead of reverse, crashing into the building and sending glass all the way to the back of the store.

Store Manager Trenton Ohler says he watched it happen.

“Shocked because I was thinking of how it was to the right just a little bit. I’m super grateful that there were no customers in there at the time.”

Ohler wasn’t immediately sure when the store would reopen.

“There’s no need to be open to be open so right now it’ll just be construction wise what can we do. I think it will take a toll. This is a really busy place.”

New Philadelphia Fire Captain Robert Snyder said firefighters had to remove debris from the vehicle to get the driver out.

“Very, very luck. Talking to the employees if this would have been in the weekend that lobby would have been full.”

New Philadelphia Police says they are considering a failure to control charge against the 75-year-old New Philadelphia woman, but they might not charge her since it was a private property crash.
