Mary Alice Reporting –
A fee structure was presented to New Philadelphia City Council Monday evening regarding ambulance rates.
The ambulance committee met to discuss the rates, which have not been adjusted since 2019.
Ambulance Billing Specialist Denise Phillips says through November 26th, the department has run 3,197 fire and ambulance calls for 2023. Of those, 1,537 have been billable claim to various health insurance plans.
She adds that they are looking at a rate increase in 2024.
“It’s a very modest adjustment in keeping with inflation and keeping with the times with everything else going on across the nation.”
The revenues generated through this billing, says Phillips, is used to offset supply costs, training, and continued education.
“Required by all of our staff members. All fire department crew members are required to obtain and maintain their Ohio paramedic licensure and licensure and certification as professional firefighters.”
The committee forwarded the matter to the Safety and Health Committee for further consideration.
