The Village of Newcomerstown says they have a long list of items to accomplish in 2025.
Mayor Pat Cadle says North College Street will have a new septic line, which is a $500,000 project.
Also, on tap for this year is paving streets and alleys, specifically Enterprise Drive, and crack sealing. The final installation of radio-read water meters will go in.
“Instead of our guys getting out of the truck and walking through people’s yards, we have special meters that attach onto the house where they can read it just by going by it. It’s radio waves that make it a lot easier. A computer stores it immediately.”
With new construction projects taking shape in the village, Cadle says zoning became a priority.
“We had 82 properties that had built on the property next door to them because there was no zoning. It was you and I we’re good friends we live next door to each other, I built a new garage and said hey, it’s about three feet over on your property [and it was] no big deal. Both of those neighbors are gone now and you have new people coming in and you can’t get a clear title. They won’t give you a title until it’s fixed. That means a lot split, you pay for it, and it takes about three months.”
Cadle notes that in 2024, the community had many events along with their nature park expanding to include an old fishing hole that had been shut off for almost 30 years. He says there is roughly a quarter mile where individuals can fish from and there’s a boat ramp.
