~ Buckeye Career Center will host the Community Showcase for Project Lead the Way, on Thursday, May 4, from 6:00-8:00pm. The annual event displays the talents of area students as they present projects in the fields of engineering, biomedical, and computer science. The awards ceremony will take place starting at 7:30pm. Participating schools include: Buckeye Career Center, Claymont, Connotton Valley, Dover, Indian Valley, New Philadelphia, Newcomerstown, Strasburg, and Tusky Valley.

~ Conotton Valley High School has received the Purple Star designation from the Ohio Department of Education. Purple Star schools show a significant commitment to serving students and families connected to the nation’s armed forces. All awardees meet unique wellness and academic needs of Ohio’s military-connected youth and to qualify, schools choose a staff person to serve as a liaison between military families and the school.

~ Two neighboring counties are among 11 counties in Ohio to receive jail funding. Approximately $50 million is being spread to support construction, renovation, and security improvement projects. Wayne County was awarded $15 million for construction or renovation projects. Carroll County is getting $227,300 for security upgrades. These grants represent the second round of funding offered as part of the program.
