~ The Ohio State Highway Patrol has open recruitment for certified Ohio peace officers to become state troopers. The Patrol has historically required already commissioned law enforcement officers to attend the full training program for cadets. Now, those with an Ohio Basic Peace Officer certification with two years of full-time, or equivalent, can apply to OSHP as a lateral cadet with the intent of becoming a state trooper.

Applications for the new lateral class will be accepted throughout May and the class will begin training in September. The training will be shortened to 12-weeks and more information is available at www.statepatrol.ohio.gov

~ General Mills has issued a voluntary recall of their 2-pund, 5-pound, and 10-pound bags of Gold Medal bleached and unbleached all-purpose flour. The bags have a “Better if Used by” dates of March 27, 2024 and March 28, 2024. Thirteen illnesses have been reported in twelve states, including Ohio, New York, Virginia, Tennessee, and Illinois. The recall, listed on www.cdc.gov, instructions individuals with the packages to not use the flour and to thoroughly clean if being stored in a container.

~ The American Red Cross will be in the Village of Newcomerstown again to get smoke detectors in homes. Volunteers will be out on May 6th, from 10am to 2pm, targeting homes along Martin Luther Drive, S. College Street, Mulvane Street, and Chestnut Street. Those interested in securing an alarm for their residence is asked to be home during the listed hours.
