~ New Philadelphia residents are invited to “Salute Freedom” through the Rotary Club. They will again place hundreds of American flags around downtown, at Tuscora Park, and at hundreds of homes and businesses around the city.

The cost is $30 for the annual program. Rotarians will place a flag in a yard or at a business before the Memorial Day Weekend holiday. ~ This past weekend volunteers with the American Red Cross, Uhrichsville Fire Department, and city officials installed 119 smoke detectors in 50 homes on the city’s West Side. The plan is to host another effort in the fall to target a different section of the city. Anyone in need of a smoke or Carbon Monoxide detector can contact the fire department at 740-922-1243 ext 3.

~ The Carroll County General Health District is hosting a tire event on Saturday. This will be at the fairgrounds, on Kensington Road, and is for Carroll County residents only. Proof of residence must be shown. The event will allow for car and light truck tires to be disposed of, at no fee, with a 10 tire limit. The tire drop-off will be from 9am to noon. Anyone with questions can contact the Carroll Health District at 330-627-4866 ext. 1522.
