~ According to the study conducted by the Department of Public Safety’s Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO), the statewide seat belt compliance rate dropped from 84.1% in 2021 to 80.8% in 2022 – the lowest compliance rate since 2005.
To encourage Ohio drivers to buckle up, local law enforcement agencies throughout the state will participate in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) national Click It or Ticket high-visibility enforcement effort. That campaign runs through June 4th.
In 2022, there were 527 people in Ohio killed in traffic crashes where a seat belt was available, but not in use. Ohio remains below the national seat belt use rate of 91.6%. The state’s 2022 seat belt survey also revealed that Guernsey County had the highest overall compliance at 84.9%.
~ The 2023 Zoar Free Speaker Series continues on June 3rd with an intimate chronicle of the Civil War from the common soldier’s perspective. The free, public presentation will be held at 11 a.m. at the Zoar School House, with guest Dr. Brian Matthew Jordan who will discuss the service of German immigrants in the 107th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, along with other immigrant soldiers who made up one quarter of the Union Army. ~ Registration is open for the Reeves Museum History Camp. This year’s camp will feature four days of educational fun for students entering grades 3 through 6. The themes this year are: History of Animation, The Boston Tea Party/Revolutionary War, The 1980’s, and Egypt/King Tut.
Camp will include guest speakers, games, activities, and a snack each day. The camp runs from 9:00 – Noon, Monday, June 12 through Thursday, June 15. Cost for the camp is $60.00 for nall four days, or $18.00 per individual day. Registration is required.
