The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation released police bodycam footage of a fatal shooting in Dover after the county prosecutor decided not to pursue charges against the officers involved.
On May 3rd, at the I-77 southbound exit ramp onto Schneider’s Crossing Road.
State Troopers and a sheriff’s deputy shot and killed 34-year-old Kendall Woodard of Dayton after a four-hour standoff when the man brandished a gun while sitting in the driver’s seat of a pickup truck.
Released bodycam video shows about 10 seconds pass between when officers spotted the gun and when they fired.
In a January 3rd letter to Ohio BCI, Tuscarawas County Prosecutor Ryan Styer said the four officers’ use of lethal force was justified. He described their actions as patient, careful and restrained.
Styer noted Woodard had been having mental health issues and would not exit the vehicle, despite three-and-a-half hours of negotiating and a phone call from a family member.
He said Woodard pointed a handgun at two troopers standing near the driver’s side door before officers fired.
