A Uhrichsville council seat will remain open following a lack of response.

The Ward 1 position is available following Matt Fox’s resignation. The term runs through December 2027.

The Democratic Central Committee held a meeting Monday to make a selection, but Chair Martha Campbell says they were unable to based upon a lack of response.

“Our role as a Democrat Central Committee is to appoint a Democrat to fill that seat. We do not have a democrat to fill that seat. It remains vacant and city council will then be the ones that will appoint the person to serve in that seat.”

Showing up at the Committee’s meeting was Bob Baker, a former councilmember.

“You reached out to me, and I did check your voting record, and because your voting record has been as republican or nonpartisan, we really can’t consider you because we do not have any history of you voting as a democrat.”

Following the Central Committee’s 45-day grace period, the decision falls to Uhrichsville City Council to advertise for interested candidates. Political party will not matter; however, they must live in Ward 1 and be a registered voter.

Council can begin their search after June 8th.
