Mary Alice Reporting –

A rental property suffered damage following a blaze Thursday evening.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 6pm to Goshen Hill SE for a house on fire.

New Philadelphia Fire Chief Jim Parrish explains two Tuscarawas County Sheriff deputies arrived on scene first and were able to get all occupants, including pets, out safely.

“Found the wall heater that was on fire. They used two extinguishers to attempt to extinguish the fire and the fire was in the wall as well. Firefighter arrived and stretched an inch and three-quarter line in the residence and extinguished the fire, and spent some time on scene overhauling because it had extended into the wall and attic area.”

A larger mutual aid response occurred due to the homes rural location.

Parrish notes that damage consisted of fire and water, and a cost estimate is undetermined.

The chief adds an exact cause is unknown, but the renter noted having electrical issues with the heating unit.
