Mary Alice Reporting –

Monday morning, just before 11am, Newcomerstown firefighters were dispatched for a confirmed structure fire.

They responded to the 800 block of West State St and it was unknown at the time whether anyone was home, so additional resources were immediately requested from Arrowhead FD, along with other dispatched companies. It was confirmed shortly into the incident that the residents were not home.

A release notes that conditions showed heavy fire showing from the first floor windows, spreading into the second floor/attic area. Newcomerstown firefighters opted for a transitional attack, knocking down the main body of fire from the exterior, before making entry.

Crews made a quick knockdown, saving the structure, but heavy damage was sustained from smoke, heat, and water.

No injuries were noted. A cause is under investigation with the Stare Fire Marshals office.

Newcomerstown was assisted by fire departments from Delaware Valley, West Lafayette, Arrowhead, Tri County EMS, and Newcomerstown police.
