Norma M. (Rutledge) Ross, 97, of Newcomerstown, passed away May 2, 2022, at Riverside Manor in Newcomerstown. Norma was born on January 26, 1925, in Newcomerstown, OH to the late Mildred F. (Marlatt) Ray. She graduated from Newcomerstown High School in the Class of 1943 as the co-valedictorian. Norma retired from Ohio Power Company (AEP) in 1980 after 35 years of service. On October 9, 1949, she married Donald P. Rutledge, who passed in 1992. She later married James J. “Junior” Ross on June 28, 1997, and the two were happily married until his passing in 2007.
Norma was a member of First Baptist Church for over 65 years. She belonged to ABW group of church and held many offices over the years. She enjoyed playing hausey with card club, and she belonged to Ohio Power Retiree’s Group. She delivered meals for the Senior Center for over 10 years and volunteered in the reading program at West Elementary School.
Norma is survived by her step-children, Denny (Marlene) Ross and Connie (Glenn) Frye; step-son-in-law, Alvin Fillman; several step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Catherine Rutledge; nephews, Kevin E. Ray and Stanton Tedlie; great-nieces and great-nephews, Eddie, David, Jimmy, and Casey Ray, Kristen Harmon, Lisa Carr.
Norma is preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Rutledge and James Ross; step-daughter, Carole Fillman; brothers, Edward E. Ray, Robert W. “Butch” Ray, and Donald R. Ray; sister-in-law, Florence Ray; nephews, Robin Ray, Tommy Ray, Darren R. Ray, and Edward L. Ray.
Private services for Norma’s family and church family will be held by Addy Funeral Home. Interment will take place at West Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Norma’s memory to First Baptist Church, 135 S River St, Newcomerstown, OH 43832.
