Nick McWilliams reporting – A leader of the General Services department in New Philadelphia was praised for going the extra mile.

General Services Superintendent Ray Grewell received a special commendation for recent work on intersection lights near the city’s largest park.

Mayor Joel Day said that it was the employees of the service department that asked for Grewell to be recognized for going above and beyond.

“Ray consistently goes above and beyond what is asked of him, leading his employees by example. One instance of this is the flashing lights on North Broadway at Tuscora Park. Ray took it upon himself to take them down, rewire them, and clean them up in order to get them looking like they were brand new.”

Employees penned a letter to the mayor asking for the recognition, calling Grewell “a great boss” and “a true leader.”

Council members and Service Director Ron McAbier also commended his work ethic, stating that multiple residents have expressed gratitude for Grewell’s efforts in keeping the city going.
