Mary Alice Reporting – A total of $21.4 million will be invested in Tuscarawas County for construction projects set to begin this year.

Fifteen projects are spread across the county with multiple work zones expected on Interstate 77 for a slide repair, culvert replacement and rehabilitation, as well as, resurfacing from New Philadelphia to Strasburg and a one mile section of US 250, from I-77 to just east of the interchange, which will be done during night time hours.

Ohio Department of Transportation District 11 Public Information Officer Lauren Borell says one project to begin in a few weeks is on State Route 416 and it will cause delays.

“Bridge rehabilitation project and this is just north of Tusky, and we will maintain traffic with one lane. There’s going to be a closure sign; however, it is not a road closure, it is actually for the bike lane that’s on 416.”

A $609,000 bridge removal on SR 800 will close the road to traffic briefly until completion at the end of June.

“They’ll be doing some preparation work. The closure won’t begin until July. That’s when it will begin, after the 4th of July, but until then, we will have one lane of traffic maintained but it will require a 45-day closure of the roadway.”

Some other high traffic areas that will see lane restrictions is on SR 39 and SR 212. Borell notes this almost $2.8 million project is anticipated to start in May.

“SR 39, this will be east of New Philadelphia to the Carroll County line will be resurfaced. In addition, part of this project includes SR 212 from Bolivar to the SR 800/SR 212 intersection. We’ll maintain traffic throughout the duration of the project.”

Another impactful project that is on-going until the end of October is an intersection reconstruction on County Road 82. This is a safety project to improve visibility at the Dover Zoar Road and Schneider’s Crossing intersection.

ODOT District 11 is also partnering with the City of New Philadelphia for resurfacing County Road 21, 16th Street SW, Mill Avenue, 7th Street SW, Ray Avenue, and Wabash Avenue.  A bridge replacement will be conducted in the City of Dover on 20th Street, which will cause a closure sometime in mid-May into August.
