Mary Alice Reporting –

A major traffic accident, before the Akron Fulton International Airport, sent two to the hospital.

At 7:20 am, Thursday morning, the Ohio Department of Transportation’s OHGO alert indicated a crash on Interstate 77 north that closed off several lanes and caused traffic to be backed up for hours.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident and in a released statement, noted that a dump truck veered off the interstate, near Graybill Road, and stuck on ODOT truck sitting on the berm.

This caused an explosion and both vehicles to catch fire.

Summit deputies were able to extricate both drivers. The highway technician was transported with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, while no update has been given on the driver of the dump truck.

The crash is still under investigation.
