State troopers are reflecting on this year’s “100 Deadliest Days of Summer” in Tuscarawas and Carroll counties.
That’s the period that runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day, when more drivers are typically on the road.
New Philadelphia Post Commander Lieutenant Bryan Sponaugle says Tuscarawas County recorded six fatal crashes during that time, resulting in seven deaths. Carroll County saw two fatal crashes, with two people killed.
He says a couple troubling trends stood out including crashes involving motorcycles, where the motorcyclists were not at fault, and also people not wearing seat belts – where a seat belt would have clearly saved a life.
Statewide, he says fatalities appear to be up slightly compared to last year, though not by a large margin.
