An exemption became effective at the start of October, in Ohio, related to certain childcare items.
As part of the state’s operating budget from Governor Mike DeWine as sales tax exemption was added for specific baby products.
DeWine mentioned it as part of his State of the State address given in January.
“We must do everything we can to better support families. To ease the financial burden on new parents, our budget asks to repeal the state tax on critical infant supplies.”
Tuscarawas County Auditor Larry Lindberg notes that the exemptions went into effect the first of October.
“Some of the items included, diapers, the baby wipes, certain creams or soaps for the babies. It also takes into account some higher priced items, such as child seats or booster seats, a crib, or strollers.”
According to the Ohio Department of Taxation, this sales tax exemption also applies to any applicable purchases made online by an individual living in or located in Ohio. If a person believes they were wrongly charged on an exempted item, after October 1, 2023, a sales tax refund application can be completed at www.tax.ohio.gov.
