For the next three months, Ohio’s burn back is back in place.

The law prohibits outdoor open burning between the hours of 6am and 6pm, for the months of March, April, and May.

Dover Fire Chief Russ Volkert says the reason for the burn ban is largely due to dry and windy conditions associated with the spring months.

“On a warm breezy day, you can essentially have a lot of dead vegetation that dries out very quickly but the other element of that is the fact that looking at climactic conditions and the likelihood of creating a problem due to the air pollution from smoke that’s given out from the fire.”

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency lists items to not burn are yard waste, garbage, material containing grease, rubber or asphalt, or dead animals.

During legal hours, folks can use a proper burn barrel that sits on cleared ground with at least 10 feet clearance on all sides.
