Gwen Rummell Reporting –

The application period for the OMEGA Regional Transportation Planning Organization’s (RTPO) Allocated Capital Funding for State Fiscal Year 2024 is now open.

OMEGA receives $1.13 million annually from the Surface Transportation Block Grant, through the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). The RTPO covers Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Holmes, Muskingum, and Tuscarawas Counties.

Transportation Planner, Josh Sliker, says the RTPO grant money is a great way to aid smaller agencies in completing their projects.

“We are hoping that a lot of smaller communities that would have a very difficult time coming up with match, will be able to use this to sort of fill that in.”

Eligible projects may include road/bridge improvements, bicycle/pedestrian facility enhancements, or transportation safety improvements.

Depending on the type of project, applicants can receive anywhere from $50,000 to $400,000. The time to apply for a grant closes August 31st.
