Mary Alice Reporting – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine recently announced future locations of electric vehicle charging stations.

These will go along interstates, making Ohio the first state in the nation to announce sites that will be developed under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program.

More than $18 million will be awarded for 27 stations along seven of Ohio’s interstate corridors primarily at gas stations, stores, restaurants, or other convenient locations, explains DeWine.

“As more Ohioans purchase EV’s we want to make sure our infrastructure is prepared to accommodate them. Approximately every 50 miles along Ohio’s interstates. These chargers will include four ports, open 24-hours a day once they are installed next year.”

Several locations are planned for Stark County, but for Tuscarawas County, the state will be at the US Route 250 and SR 39 interchange at exit 81.

This fall, the Ohio Department of Transportation will issue its second request for proposals to install an additional 16 charging stations along Ohio’s major U.S. and state routes.
