Gwen Rummell Reporting –

One man involved in a October 2023 drive by shooting on East High Avenue has changed his plea.

Gavin Kurtz is charged with attempted murder, felonious assault, and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle. Kurtz plead guilty to all charges.

A request was made by Kurtz to see the possibility of release with a GPS tracker during the time before his sentencing to see his family.

Judge Michael Ernest denied the motion based upon the charges.

“Gavin, I can appreciate you wanting to do that, but I’m going to overrule the motion. I don’t intend to release you. I understand at least the suggestion of a GPS. It helps with people as for as some situations knowing their whereabouts, but there are other concerns I would have in this case which the GPS would not address.”

Kurtz was permitted to step aside to speak with his great aunt who is on hospice before returning to jail.

The sentencing will take place on May 7th at 2:30pm.
