Uhrichsville council majority decided to hold off on approving a bid for a vacant lot.
Thursday evening discussion centered around a single bid placed for 521 E 1st Street.
Mayor Jim Zucal recommended for council to table the resolution for follow up with the bidder, who lives out of state.
“It was publicly advertised and we received one bid. My opinion, one bid is not a very good basis to judge the sale of that property. $3,000 for a full city lot, with water and sewer, and someone who live in Florida. I don’t know if it’s fair to ask but I want to know what she’s going to do with it. Would ask you to not take action on it and if nothing else we bid it again and see if we get a better price. Or if we can get Habitat. To get one bid on the property, $3,000 for a full city lot, I don’t think is in the best interest of the community.”
Councilwoman Barbara Colvin had a differing opinion.
“The lady bid on it and she won, so give her the lot. She was the only one to bid on it. It’s not fair not to give it to her. I mean, what precedence are you setting when you put another lot up for sale and I bid on it and you say no, I want three people. That’s not being fair to the bids at all. Is there a downside of giving it to her now when she put the bid in and calling and asking about the bid? Why should we put her off. That’s not being fair to her for being the only person putting the bid in. It was in the paper, she bid on it, there you go.”
A motion was made to hold off on accepting the bid with Colvin the lone no vote.
