The State Highway Patrol responded to two crashes on I-77 in Tuscarawas County on Wednesday.

The first happened just before 2 p.m. in Dover. New Philadelphia Post Sgt. Bill Bower says the driver of a pickup truck carelessly merged onto I-77 South, forcing a car off the interstate.

The driver of that vehicle lost control and hit the car behind it. Bower reported only minor injuries, but two vehicles had to be towed. The pickup truck left the scene, but ODOT cameras recorded the incident. Bower says the video is not good enough to identify the vehicle that caused the crash.

The other crash involved a single vehicle around 9 p.m. on I-77 south in New Philadelphia. Bower says the car went off the road, hit a traffic sign, a tree and a culvert, then rolled over and hit another tree.

The driver of that vehicle was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital. The cause of that crash is under investigation. The roads were wet at the times of both crashes.
