Gwen Rummell Reporting –

The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be teaming up with law enforcement departments to remove impaired drivers from roadways during St. Patrick’s Day.

The effort is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving” campaign.

Over the last five years, there were 216 impaired driving-related crashes on St. Patrick’s Day that resulted in 117 injuries and 14 deaths.

Anyone planning to have alcoholic beverages should have a plan to safely get home. Law enforcement recommends having a designated driver, use a transportation service, or stay at the place of celebration if possible.

Motorists are encouraged to safely call #677 to report unsafe or impaired drivers on Ohio roadways.
