Gwen Rummell Reporting –
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to drive sober during the holidays.
Troopers will focus on removing impaired drivers from the roadways from Friday, December 22nd through Monday, December 25th.
Spokesperson Lieutenant Nathan Dennis says if you do plan to drink, know how you are getting home.
“Before you go to that festivity, try to find somebody that’s going to be able to get you home safely – that’s sober. If not, just remember also that there are taxis available [and] there’s ride-share apps that are available that you can utilize as well. Some of the other things to remember, you as the driver, you are responsible for everybody in your vehicle.”
Another option includes waiting at the location or a hotel room until sober.
Troopers made 58 impaired-driving arrests during last year’s holiday reporting period, with half of fatal crashes involving alcohol or drugs.
The Patrol encourages motorists to call #677 to report impaired drivers, drug activity, or stranded motorists.
