Mary Alice Reporting –
The 52nd Turkey Trot was held on Thanksgiving Day, and it was a successful year that will help with financial support.
The local 5K run saw 46 volunteers help on race day and for 2023, the fundraiser brought in $62,657.
Race Director Jenny Dallas says they also had a record number of participants.
“We had over 1,000 runners [and] as far as I know that’s as many as we’ve had in the past few years. Our overall male winner was Gabriel Ernest, [of New Philadelphia], second year in a row, he had a time of 16.20 and the overall female winner this year was Hannah Wyler, of Mineral City, time of 18:23.”
Dallas adds that all proceeds directly support the Tuscarawas County YMCA’s Annual Campaign.
“Goes toward those in our community who may not be able to afford things like a Y membership, swim lessons, preschool, after school. It goes to help families just come, be in a safe and secure environment where they can be healthy together, spend time together.”
She says the event was also a success thanks to the continue business sponsorship support.
