A crash that blocked one lane of traffic on Interstate 77, in Franklin Township, was fatal and is still under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s New Philadelphia Post reports that, on Tuesday, at around 10:40am, a 2004 International semi was northbound, near mile post 87.

The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, down an embankment, and hit a tree before overturning.

The 58-year-old driver, Shelton McCoy, of Salem, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office. Alcohol is not a suspected factor, and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

Assisting departments included Dover and Strasburg fire, Strasburg police, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and Ohio EPA.
