Tuscarawas County is once again turning pink for October as the annual Paint Tusc Pink campaign ramps up.
Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital community health and wellness nurse Mindy Hoopingarner says the effort began locally nearly two decades ago to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of regular mammograms and early detection.
Hoopingarner says what makes the campaign stand out is the county‑wide participation from businesses, schools, healthcare providers, and residents all displaying pink signs and decorations to create a visible reminder that breast health matters.
She says local reporting has shown mammography rates increased significantly after the campaign began.
Hoopingarner is also helping lead a community program, “Let’s Talk Breast Health,” at the Dover Public Library on Friday from noon to 1 p.m.
General surgeons will answer questions about screenings, risk factors, and breast cancer care.
