Paul W. “Buck” Copen, 73, of New Philadelphia, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at his home. Born August 13, 1949, to Bertie and Flossie Belle (Menefee) Copen.
In his 20’s and 30’s, Paul worked on oil rigs in Ohio and Pennsylvania. He was a longtime member of the Laborer’s Union at Newcomerstown and had retired from Gordon Foods at Canton where he had worked as a truck driver.
Paul loved being at home, tending to his cows and his horse and tinkering around the house. He always had a project that he was working on.
Surviving is his daughter, Peggy (Jimmy) Hitchcock of Dover; his grandson and his companion, Dakota DeMattio and Kelsey Brown; his great granddaughter, Davina DeMattio; two brothers and a sister, Jesse Copen of New Philadelphia, Pete Copen of Cleveland and Peggy (Stan) Hendrickson of Fairbanks, Alaska.
In addition to his parents, two brothers and three sisters also precede him in death.
In keeping with his wishes, Paul is to be cremated through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Friends may call Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 10 to 11 AM in the funeral home.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the American Heart Association.
