Gwen Rummell Reporting –

Pet owners are encouraged to be cautious with their pets during the solar eclipse on April 8th.

Typically, dogs and cats do not look directly at the sun, but they may be more likely to do so if they see humans looking.

The Tuscarawas County Health Department says it is important to keep pets inside during peak times of the eclipse, similar to what you would for weather events or fireworks. Pets may show signs of anxiety or start their nightly routine early, making it important to engage in stress reducing activities.

For those traveling with animals, ensure there is food, water, and medication if needed.

Pet owners are reminded to check their pet’s identification tags. The tags should include their name, address, and a phone number.
