Mary Alice Reporting – May 15th take the time to honor and remember police officer who died while on the job.

The Memorial Day is part of National Police Week which pays tribute to the law enforcement community.

 Fraternal Order of Police Tuscora Lodge #4 President Robert Everett expresses the importance of Peace Office Memorial Day to officers and their families.

“Memorialize the law enforcement officer who have been killed and made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. In 1962, President [Robert] Kennedy established National Peace Officer Memorial Day through a joint resolution of congress.”

In 2022, 245 officer died in the line of duty and so far this year, 36 officer have lost their life.

For the Memorial Day, in Washington D.C., honor guard teams will take 15-minute shifts to stand watch over the Memorial Wreaths and this will run from noon through midnight.

Things wrap up in DC on Tuesday with a National Police Survivors conference where families receive support to understand grief, learn new coping skills, and build connections, with age appropriate activities.
