Mary Alice Reporting –

Historic Zoar Village is getting ready for opening day, which will include a tree dedication, but before that, an annual tradition will occur on Friday, March 29th.

Pretzel day is a Good Friday tradition that started in the 1800’s when the Zoar’s Society of Separatists made soft pretzels during this religious observance.

This Friday, from 11am to 4pm, in the Zoar Bakery, pretzels will be available for purchase, and will be limited to two per person. Proceeds from the sale benefits the village’s education program and building restoration.

Following that event, the historical attraction will open for the 2024 season on Saturday, April 6th with the main feature being a new art exhibit in the museum. “Scene Around Zoar” showcases the scenery of Zoar in the 1880’s to the 1940’s. The exhibit will be displayed from April 1st through October 27th.

There will also be a tree dedication to celebrate the replacement of the Tree of Everlasting Life, as the original was damaged during a March 2023 windstorm.

General admission for adults is $12 and children, five to 17 years old, is $6. For more details about the village, including hours and other events, go online to www.hisotriczoarvilage.com.
