A special Board of Elections meeting was held to certify petitions with two not approved and a candidate unable to run due to a conviction.

On December 27th, the Tuscarawas County Elections Board approved 12 partisan petitions, with four valid issues that were approved for the primary election.

Director Gail Garbrandt notes that there were two petitions that did not pass, one being a liquor option and the other a candidate for county recorder.

“Because the declaration of candidacy was signed the day that he filed his petitions in December but the signatures on the petition were from August.”

One individual had issued paperwork to run for the Tuscarawas County Board of Commissioners, but Elections Board President Tom Hisrich explains the person is unable to hold another government office.

“Previous he was convicted of stealing from a government agency. By reason of that fact, he is ineligible candidate for public office.”

Garbrandt adds that write-in candidates for the March 19th primary have until January 8th to file.
