Recent state legislation is allowing more commercial development on the north side of Dover.
The Ohio Senate recently passed a bill to allow the Dover Armory to auction off a valuable piece of real estate at the corner of North Wooster Avenue and Schneider’s Crossing Road.
The Ohio House is expected to approve it, too. The vacant land is valued at over 700-thousand dollars.
Mayor Shane Gunnoe says it is an attractive site because of its proximity to I-77 and the Schaeffler manufacturing facility that is under construction about a mile north.
ALDI is in the process of buying land next to the Armory property to build a new grocery store. Gunnoe says the supermarket chain is among those interested in bidding for the corner lot.
The property is state-owned, making the legislation necessary before the National Guard can put it up for auction.
