The State Highway Patrol is giving prospective troopers a chance to ask questions and take the first steps toward attending the training academy. The Patrol is holding regional testing Friday at Kent State Tuscarawas.
Post Commander Lt. Bryan Sponaugle says anyone interested in employment can come to the campus beginning at 9 a.m. to meet troopers and learn more about a career serving Ohio’s communities and roadways. Recruiters and patrol personnel will be on site as candidates move through the process — from the written exam to running, sit-ups and push-ups.
Applicants who meet the basic requirements — age 20 to 39, U.S. citizen, high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver license — can complete an application and take the written test on site. Those who pass can immediately move on to the physical fitness assessment.
After Friday’s testing, candidates would still need to complete a background check, polygraph, medical exam and drug screening. Successful applicants are then placed on an eligibility roster, attend a signing day at their district headquarters, and complete a ride-along before entering the academy.
