It was a great turnout locally for the 2024 General Election.
Tuscarawas County Board of Elections Director Gail Garbrandt says they saw a large number of ballots cast.
“The total turnout looks like almost 73-percent, 42,030 ballots cast [out of] 58,849 registered voters”
She adds they still have about 500 provisional ballots to count.
“We still have absentee ballots that, if they were postmarked by November 4th and we received them by Saturday, they will county in the official results”
The board is expected to meet on November 18th for the official results.
Overall, she says the night was uneventful and thanked all poll workers.
“We’re just so fortunate in Tuscarawas County that we have a lot of people who step up and be poll workers, precinct liaisons, and delivery teams. It’s just a concentrated effort of a lot of really, really good people”
A unique moment, says Garbrandt, was a call from Union Hospital and a couple patients, hospitalized due to an emergency or other illness, wanting to vote. They fell within the laws parameters and a special form was filled out allowing them to cast an absentee ballot.
