Mary Alice Reporting – A new truck will soon be in service for the New Philadelphia Fire Department.

The purchase was made after a pitch to council that their current ladder was refurbished 10 years ago and continued to suffer from hydraulic issues and the pumps had been replaced several times.

Fire Chief Jim Parrish explains that a financial plan has been work out through First Federal Community Bank and notes that the new truck will fit the department’s needs.

“It has a lot of features that we don’t have now, simply because it’s a mid-mount. A mid-mount can do so many things a rear mount can’t. That individual truck has all wheel steer therefore we can get it around town a little better, get into some tighter spots. It has a turn radius of 35-feet. It has a 2,000 GPM pump and that increases our pumping capacity.”

The department is expecting the new truck this month and once it’s fitted with gear and equipment it will be placed into service.

A community push in ceremony is set for Saturday, April 22nd at 1pm.
