New Philadelphia’s safety director says the county’s Quick Response Team is helping to reduce overdose deaths in the city and across the county.

Safety Director Kevin Milligan says the number of drug overdoses requiring EMS response in the city is down 48 percent since last year.

He credits the County QRT, which formed in 2017 through a grant from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

New Philadelphia firefighter Wes Halter is part of the team, working with the Sheriff’s office, ADAMHS Board and clinical staff from OhioGuidestone and SpringVale Health Centers.

Milligan says the team works across Tuscarawas County, which has seen a similar decrease of almost 50 percent.
